About Select Coatings
Select Coatings is a family owned asphalt sealcoating and pavement maintenance contractor based in Meridian, Idaho. We started in June 2022 and we work across the Treasure Valley: Boise, Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell. We are insured with $2 million in general liability coverage through State Farm, we put two sprayed coats of asphalt emulsion on every job we seal, and every job carries a one year warranty.
What we will tell you that others will not
What sealcoating will not do
Sealcoating will not make your driveway look brand new. If you have a pothole or a low spot, you will still see it after we leave. What it does is stop the damage from getting worse.
Sometimes you should just do it yourself
If the job is small enough and you already own the tools, we will tell you to do it yourself. You need wire brooms, a backpack blower, a weed eater, a crack fill machine with a propane tank and a torch, and horse hair brushes to cut in.
Bucket sealer costs about three to four times what bulk costs per gallon. Assuming you have the tools, expect to spend another $200 to $300.
Where the "sealcoating is a scam" reputation comes from
It comes from contractors watering down their sealer. There are a few doing it locally. Watered down sealer is close to applying black water: it looks dark for a week and then it is gone.

A contractor working out of a 55 gallon drum on the back of a truck has no way to agitate the sealer. Without agitation the solids settle to the bottom, and what goes on your driveway is whatever floated on top.
