Eagle Pavement Striping
Parking lot striping in Eagle, Idaho
Eagle City Code requires striping on any parking area holding more than twelve vehicles. We stripe for Dutch Bros at more than one Eagle location.
Twelve vehicles is a low threshold
Eagle City Code 8-4-4-2 states that all parking areas with a capacity over twelve vehicles shall be provided with standard parking space striping.
Twelve. That captures nearly every commercial property in the city, including small offices, single tenant retail and most of what sits along Chinden and State Street.
The sentence that changes the conversation
Eagle City Code 8-4-3:
"The owner of property used for parking shall maintain such area in good condition without holes and free of all dust, trash and other debris."
That is a code obligation to keep your lot free of holes. It moves pavement repair out of the discretionary column. A faded lot and a lot with potholes are not just untidy in Eagle, they are a compliance question.
Eagle allows a stall Meridian does not
This one catches property managers who run sites in both cities.
Eagle permits compact stalls at eight feet wide, capped at thirty percent of total spaces. Meridian permits no narrower compact stall at all, only a two foot reduction in depth.
So the same layout does not transfer between the two cities. A plan that works in Eagle can be non compliant in Meridian, and a Meridian layout copied into Eagle leaves usable stalls on the table.
On a tight Eagle lot, that thirty percent allowance is often the difference between meeting your required count and not meeting it.

Fire lanes in Eagle mean a red curb
This is where Eagle differs from its neighbors in a way that matters on site.
Eagle City Code 5-3-9 defines a fire lane as clearly marked with a red curb, with appropriate signs located at each end of the curb or at one hundred foot intervals. Hydrant zones get fifteen feet in every direction, also with red curbs. The infraction is $100.
Eagle is the only one of the three cities we work in most whose code text requires a red curb. Nampa's text says yellow. Meridian defers to the fire code official. So a contractor who paints your Eagle fire lane the way they painted one in Nampa last week has painted it wrong.
Before we mark a fire lane we confirm the requirement with the Eagle Fire District for your specific site.

Accessible parking is the one thing Eagle cannot change
Worth stating plainly, because it comes up on every commercial job. Idaho Code 39-4116 does not allow a city to amend any accessibility provision. So accessible parking in Eagle is identical to everywhere else in the state. There is no Eagle version.
Two things people get wrong often:
1. The access aisle runs the full length of the space. There is no twenty foot rule. If somebody quoted you a fixed aisle length, they were guessing.
2. The painted symbol on the pavement is not a federal requirement. ADA 502.6 requires a mounted sign. The thirty six by thirty six inch painted symbol people cite is California building code. We will paint one if you want it, and we will not tell you the ADA makes you.
Federal requirements (2010 ADA Standards section 502):
| Car space width | 8 ft minimum (502.2) |
|---|---|
| Van space width | 11 ft minimum, or 8 ft where the access aisle is 8 ft (502.2) |
| Access aisle width | 5 ft minimum, car and van alike (502.3.1) |
| Access aisle length | The full length of the spaces it serves (502.3.2) |
| Aisle location | Cannot overlap the vehicular way. Either side, except angled van spaces, where it goes on the passenger side (502.3.4) |
| Identification sign | Bottom of the sign at least 60 inches above the ground (502.6) |
What it costs
| Restriping an existing layout | About $7.00 per stall |
|---|---|
| A new layout | $12 to $15 per stall |
| Priced by the foot | About $0.35 per lineal foot |
A new layout costs about twice a restripe because it takes about twice as long. With an existing layout the crew follows what is on the ground. With a new one there are no reference lines, so every stall gets measured and snapped from scratch. Stencils, arrows, curb painting and fire lane work are priced separately.
Questions we get in Eagle
Does Eagle require a parking lot to be striped?
Yes, above twelve vehicles. Eagle City Code 8-4-4-2 states that all parking areas with a capacity over twelve vehicles shall be provided with standard parking space striping.
How much does parking lot striping cost in Eagle, Idaho?
About $7.00 a stall to restripe an existing layout, and $12 to $15 a stall for a new layout, which works out to roughly $0.35 per lineal foot. Stencils, arrows, curb work and fire lanes are priced separately.
Are accessible parking rules different in Eagle than in Meridian, Idaho?
No. Idaho Code 39-4116 does not allow a city to amend any accessibility provision, so accessible parking requirements are identical. Ordinary stall dimensions differ: Eagle allows an eight foot compact stall capped at thirty percent of spaces, and Meridian permits no narrower compact stall at all.
What color does a fire lane curb have to be in Eagle, Idaho?
Red. Eagle City Code 5-3-9 defines a fire lane as clearly marked with a red curb, with signs at each end of the curb or at one hundred foot intervals. Nampa's code text specifies yellow, so the requirement differs between the two cities.
Does the ADA require a painted accessibility symbol in each parking space?
No. ADA 2010 Standards section 502.6 requires a mounted sign. The thirty six by thirty six inch painted pavement symbol frequently cited is California building code rather than a federal requirement.
How long does parking lot striping paint take to dry?
About fifteen to twenty minutes to the touch with oil based traffic paint, depending on conditions. The layout takes longer than the paint does.
Does Eagle require property owners to keep parking lots free of potholes?
Yes. Eagle City Code 8-4-3 requires the owner of property used for parking to maintain the area in good condition, without holes and free of all dust, trash and other debris.
